Agenesis of Azygos Vein in a Case of Esophageal Atresia and Tracheoesophageal Fistula

چکیده
A 2-day-old female neonate, weighing 2.7kg, presented with salivation, frothing, and choking at feeding attempts. There was a history of polyhydramnios in mother. The baby was a product of non-consanguineous marriage and delivered at term by normal vaginal delivery in a private hospital. General physical examination was unremarkable. There were no visible associated anomalies in the baby. Chest and upper abdominal radiograph showed feeding tube curled just beyond thoracic inlet and a big gastric shadow. Laboratory investigations were within normal limits. Patient underwent right thoracotomy which revealed agenesis of azygos vein (Fig. 1). Primary esophageal repair was done with mild anastomotic tension. Postoperative recovery was uneventful. Echocardiogram done postoperatively showed structurally and functionally normal heart. Patient was discharged in good general condition.

Anatomic Thoracoscopic Repair of Esophageal Atresia
BACKGROUND The thoracoscopic approach to repair esophageal atresia (EA) with tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) provides excellent view, allowing the most skillful surgeons to spare the azygos vein by performing the esophageal anastomosis over (on the right side) the azygos vein. Seeking the most anatomic repair, we started to perform the esophageal anastomosis underneath (on the left side) the az...
متن کاملEsophageal Atresia and Tracheoesophageal Fistula with Unilateral Pulmonary Agenesis - Hypoplasia
Association of unilateral severe pulmonary hypoplasia or agenesis and esophageal atresia (EA) with or without tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) is an exceedingly rare and highly lethal combination. We report a case of full term male baby who had EA with TEF and right lung hypoplasia, managed at our centre. He is alive and doing well at 10 years of age.
متن کاملEsophageal Anastomosis Medial to Preserved Azygos Vein in Esophageal Atresia with Tracheoesophageal Fistula: Restoration of Normal Mediastinal Anatomy
OBJECTIVE We intended to prospectively study the technical feasibility and advantages of esophageal anastomosis medial to the preserved azygos vein in neonates diagnosed with esophageal atresia with tracheoesophageal fistula (EA/TEF). The results were compared to the cases where azygos vein was either not preserved, or the anastomosis was done lateral to the arch of preserved azygos vein. MAT...
متن کاملIsolated Vaginal Agenesis Associated with Multiple Gastrointestinal Anomalies: A Case Report
More than 50% of infants with esophageal atresia have associated anomalies. We present a case report of a 46XX neonate with long-gap esophageal atresia and tracheoesophageal fistula (EA/TEF), anorectal malformation, bowel duplication and vaginal agenesis. This is an unusual association of abnormalities which had not yet described in literature.
متن کاملCongenital Esophageal Stenosis Associated with Esophageal Atresia and Gasless Abdomen
SUMMARY A radiologically gasless abdomen in a neonate with EA is usually regarded as being pathognomonic of an absence of distal T.E.F. It has been estimated that up to 1.5% of patient with a distal fistula may have a radiologically gasless abdomens as a manifestation of a very small fistula plugged with mucus. In this case a contrast study via the gastrostomy demonstrated a fistula between th...
